Beach Bits:
•
Flint became part of the youngest team to win an AVP event in September
2015 when she and Kelley Larsen won all five matches in claiming the
title in Cincinnati. The duo was a combined 46 years, 4 months, 27 days
(record was then surpassed in September 2017). En route to the title
Flint and Larsen upset the tournament's teams seeded second, third,
fourth and sixth.
• Flint's AVP victory in Manhattan Beach 2023
with Julia Donlin was a first in AVP history as the duo became the
first #1 seed to lose to a #32 seed (prior to that #32 seeds were 0-60
against #1 seeds). • Entering the 2026 season Flint has played in an AVP title match in nine straight years (excluding the 2025 season in which she did not compete).
2025: Did not compete. 2024: Flint and Donlin played in three AVP events, finishing third and second before
taking a seventh in the season finale, marking their first time in eight
AVP events not making the semifinals. In the inaugural AVP League
season Flint and Donlin competed for the Los Angeles Launch and had a
3-5 match record. In four international events together the pair had a
best of fifth place. 2023: Flint and Julia Donlin played five AVP events together, placing second in Miami in their AVP debut. In the next event they lost in the first round but finished in third place, and placed second in the following tournament. In Manhattan Beach they made history by
losing their first round match but coming back and winning eight
straight elimination matches to win the title. Flint played once with Megan J. Rice, placing ninth. Flint and Donlin ended
the domestic season with a third place finish. Internationally they
played 11 times with a pair of fifths before winning a silver medal in
Montreal. They placed ninth in the World Championships in Mexico. 2022: Flint began a new partnership with Kelly Cheng, advancing to the semifinals with an undefeated record in seven of their eight AVP tournaments. The duo won in New Orleans and finished second three times including in Manhattan Beach. Flint and Cheng played five World Tour events together, winning an Elite event in Hamburg to go with a pair of fourths in Elite events. The duo placed 17th in the World Championships in Rome. Flint ended the year playing alongside Julia Donlin for the first time and the pair won a silver medal in an Elite event. They then won a NORCECA tournament the following weekend. 2021: Flint
and Capers played three AVP events, placing fifth and then second in
Manhattan Beach before having to forfeit both matches in Chicago. The
duo competed twice on the FIVB Tour, winning a gold medal in a two star
event and placing fifth in a four star tournament. 2020: Flint and Capers played in just one tournament, finishing in ninth place in a four star event on the FIVB Tour. 2019: Flint
and Capers played eight AVP events together, reaching the semifinals in
five of them. The duo placed third in the season opener in Huntington
Beach, finished second in Seattle, then won in Hermosa Beach. They ended
the year with a second in Chicago and a third in Honolulu. On the FIVB
Tour they played in 11 tournaments, losing in the country quota four
times. They won two silver medals in three star events, and both times
in lost in the gold medal match to a team from the host country
(Australia and Canada). 2018: Flint formed a
partnership with Emily Capers, winning twice in five AVP events. Flint
was fifth on the AVP Tour in kills (7.37 per set), sixth in digs (5.51
per set) and ninth in aces (.86 per set). On the FIVB Tour Flint and
Kelley Larsen played four times, with a best of a bronze in a one-star
event. Flint and Capers paired up for seven international tournaments,
winning a three-star event. 2017: Flint and
Larsen played seven AVP events, winning in San Francisco and finishing
second two other times. Flint was ranked third on the Tour in kills
(7.66 per set) On the FIVB Tour Larsen and Flint did not lose a single
set in winning a two-star and a one-star event. 2016:
Flint and Larsen played in five AVP events, with a best of second in the
season ender in Chicago. She ended the year second in kills (7.74 per
set) and fourth in digs (6.06 per set), sixth in digs (5.88 per set),
and eighth in aces (.82 per set). The duo competed in three FIVB events,
with a best of 25th. 2015: Flint and Larsen played six
AVP tournaments, beginning the year with a loss in the qualifier. In
Cincinnati they went undefeated, all against teams seeded 10th or
better, and won the title. Flint was third in aces (0.93 per set) and
10th in digs (4.72 per set). Internationally, she and Larsen played on
FIVB event, losing in the qualifier, and finished fifth in the Pan
American Games. 2014: Flint played alongside Kelly
Larsen in her first AVP tournament. Seeded 24th in the qualifier, they
defeated three top 10 qualifier seeds to advance to the main draw,
finishing ninth. She then paired with Jane Chafeh for an AVP event, also
qualifying for the main draw and placing 13th. Flint and Larsen
finished fifth in the FIVB Under 23 World Championships. 2013: Did not compete. 2012: Flint began her pro beach career with a pair of domestic tournaments, but failed to advance from the qualifier in either one.
College: As a defensive specialist at Loyola Marymount, she
played in every single match during her four-year career. Flint left the
school as the all-time leader in both digs and aces, which ranked
fourth and fifth respectively in the West Coast Conference's all-time
charts. She was chosen the league's Defensive Player of the Year for
three straight seasons (Co-Defensive Player of the Year as a junior).
Competed for two seasons in sand volleyball at LMU, where she was twice
an All-American. In 2014 Flint reached the AVCA Final Four with Litara
Keil. In 2015 she paired with Sarah Sponcil and the duo finished second
in the AVCA Sand National Championships.
Personal: Formerly Betsi Metter, she was born in South Dakota
and has two sisters (Sarah, Sophia) and one brother (Roy). While playing
volleyball in high school in Phoenix, she set the school's career
record for kills and was second in the nation in digs as a junior. In
May 2014 she married Chase Flint, who played basketball at Loyola
Marymount. They have a daughter (Cora, born in 2020).
