Beach Bits: • Shaw's second event ever was played on her 20th
birthday (in San Francisco 2016). Then in 2017 in Seattle she played in
her first AVP main draw on her 21st birthday and again played in Seattle
on her 22nd birthday. In 2022 she advanced from a Futures event in
Poland on her 26th birthday. • Entering
the 2026 season Shaw has had four thirds (with four different partners)
and seven fifths (with seven different partners) on the AVP Tour
(including Tour Series). Her only partners with whom she has had both a
third and a fifth are Madelyne Anderson and Kelly Cheng. 2025:
Shaw formed a partnership with Kelly Cheng and the duo placed third and
fifth in their two AVP tournaments. They competed in the AVP League for
the Miami Mayhem, ending the regular season with a 4-4 match record
before losing in the quarterfinals of the League Championship. Shaw and
Cheng played nine World Tour events, winning an Elite event in Brazil
after defeating four Brazilian teams. The duo also placed fourth three
times and added three fifths including in the World Championships in
Australia. 2024:
Shaw again played six AVP events with four different partners. She had a
best of fifth twice, both on the Tour Series, once with Michelle
Shaffer and once with Piper Ferch. On the World Tour Shaw played four
times and had podium finishes each time. Shaw and Chloe Loreen won a
gold in a Futures event, then in three Challenge events alongside Toni
Rodriguez won a silver, a bronze and a gold, all after advancing from
the qualifier. Shaw and Loreen won gold medals in both NORCECA
tournaments they played. 2023: Shaw played six AVP
tournaments with four different partners. She advanced from the
qualifier to place fifth with Madelyne Anderson, then that duo placed
third in Hermosa Beach. Shaw played one tournament with her former
collegiate beach partner, Aleksandra Wachowicz, finishing in 13th place.
Shaw ended the season with a fifth place finish on the Tour Series with
Abby Van Winkle. Shaw played three World Tour events, losing in the
qualifier each time, playing twice with Anderson and once with Van
Winkle. On the NORCECA Tour Shaw won a silver with Lexy Denaburg and then won a gold with Deahna Kraft. 2022:
Shaw reunited with Jessica Foster, playing in the first five AVP
tournaments with a best of fifth in a Tour Series event. Shaw played the
next five AVP events with three different partners. She had a best of
seventh in Manhattan Beach with Torrey Van Winden, a 13th with Carly
Skjodt, and a best of third in a Tour Series event with Kaitlyn Malaney.
Internationally Shaw competed in six events, with three alongside
Jessica Foster and three with Madelyne Anderson. Shaw and Foster won a
bronze medal in a Futures event after advancing from the qualifier, then
Shaw and Anderson won a gold medal in a Futures event after playing in
the qualifier and also won a silver medal in a Challenge event. Shaw and
Anderson won their only NORCECA event together. 2021:
Shaw began the year with her first AVP semifinal, placing third in
Atlanta alongside Terese Cannon for the first time. She then placed 17th
in Manhattan Beach with Macy Jerger, then had a seventh in the season
finale with Cannon in Chicago. Shaw and Cannon advanced from the
qualifier of an FIVB one-star event and won a silver medal. 2020: Shaw and Katie Hogan played in all three AVP events in Long Beach, losing in the qualifier each time. 2019:
Shaw played nine AVP events, with the first three coming alongside
Jessica Foster. The duo placed ninth in the season opener but then lost
in the next two qualifiers. She then played five times with Brittany
Tiegs, and in their first outing they won three qualifier matches in
Seattle and placed fifth. They had a best of seventh in their remaining
four tournaments. Shaw competed on the FIVB Tour for the first time,
losing in the qualifier with Jessica Foster. 2018: Shaw
and Cassie House played six times on the AVP Tour and Shaw played once
with Bailey Bars, losing in the qualifier. Shaw and House lost in their
first two qualifiers and then advanced the next four times, getting
three 13ths and a seventh in Hermosa Beach. Shaw played one NORCECA
tournament with Falyn Fonoimoana won a gold despite being seeded 19th. 2017:
Shaw played four AVP events with Mackenzie Ponnet, playing in the
qualifier each time. They advanced twice, finishing in 13th place both
times. 2016:
Shaw played her first pro beach volleyball event in Seattle when she
was 19 years old, losing in the qualifier with Samantha Cash. She then
played two more AVP qualifiers with Morgan Martin but did not advance to
the main draw in either one.
College:
Shaw played four years of beach volleyball at Grand Canyon University.
She played with Emilee Erichsen on court two as a freshman, ending with a
5-9 record. Shaw continued to play on court two as a sophomore,
finishing with an 18-8 match record alongside Aleksandra Wachowicz. As a
junior she compiled a 22-3 match record with Tjasa Kotnik on court one,
setting the school record for highest single season win percentage, and
was named AVCA Beach Volleyball All-American. As a senior was chosen as
AVCA Beach Volleyball Honorable Mention All-American after going 14-15
on court one with Hannah Towne. When she left GCU Shaw ranked second in
program history in individual wins (55) and matches played (95) and
owned the record for most career dual wins (49) and dual matches played
(83).
Personal: Formerly
Molly Turner, she married fellow pro beach player James Shaw in
September 2023. After being cut from her high school indoor team, Shaw
switched to the sand, where she was a U-18 National Beach Volleyball
Champion. Days after graduating from college she moved to California to
pursue her dream of playing on the AVP Tour.
